1983 - The Birth of Swatch
Swatch made its debut way back in 1983 shortly after the founding of the SMH company in Switzerland. The Swiss watch industry was in crisis and their answer was Swatch - a bold new timepiece made of coloured plastic that was fun, funky and affordable.
The idea was one of the watch industry's greatest success stories. The concept of a simple plastic watch (Swatch has at least 40 fewer parts than a standard analogue watch), combined with Swiss renowned reliability and fun design appealed to the masses and Swatch went on to become the most successful wristwatch of all time.

Over the years many new developments have maintained Swatch's incredible popularity, including Irony (the metal Swatch) and Skin (the super thin Swatch), but the brand has always stayed true to its roots of fun, reliability and affordabilty.
